Global population is expected to increase by 2210 to 11.3 billion and 87 percent of that population will be living in urban areas. If this prediction comes true, urban dwellers will need the already ten most densely populated cities to expand to hold triple the residents they do now.

When people think of the ten most densely populated cities in the United States, most would say they are in the Northeast as the downtowns are much larger and the inner cities have a higher density. Geographically cities have become larger as they include the automobile adapted suburbs making more of the density occurring in the West. Here's a look at the current ten most densely populated cites in America:

New York City, NY and Los Angeles, CA

New York City is one of the most populated cities in the United States and a gateway for legal immigration to the U.S. and a global power city. It sits on one of the world's largest natural harbours and consists of five boroughs. The boroughs each contain their own distinct neighbourhoods. San Jose holds an urban density of 5,820 people per square mile. This city is the largest city within the Bay Area and the largest in Northern California.
