You may have travelled the world but you surely have missed some amazing spots. The Balkans has been one of the most underestimated areas in the world in the last few decades for many economic reasons. However, there is a country that tourists usually describe as ‘a hidden gem’. This is Bulgaria, and it is one of the most beautiful and historically gathered countries in the world. Many would ask whether it is really worth travelling this deep in Europe, so here is why you should visit Bulgaria at the very first moment possible for a trip!

1.   Sofia

Sofia is the capital of the country. It is not the oldest city in Bulgaria. However, it is a precious one. It gives you the opportunity to feel Bulgaria to the fullest. The city’s centre is like walking in another era with all its historical monuments and ruins. Just a few moments later, you shall be walking in a modern city while stepping into one of its biggest pedestrian boulevards. A step aside will bring you to a small but busy town with its small streets where you can enjoy the view of all the old, restored houses and find small shops and little food and drink stops.

2.   Plovdiv

This is one of the most beautiful cities in Bulgaria. It truly makes you feel like you are walking around in the past century. Small streets with stone pavement and very old but well-maintained houses turned into hotels and even hostels for more budget bohemian life-stylers. This place was announced as a European cultural capital, and it comes for a reason. Events and artisan ateliers and shops will surround you throughout your stay and you can taste the world in all the small restaurants in the creative district called Kapana.

3.   Burgas

Burgas is one of the loveliest places in this country. It is straight on the seaside and it has the biggest seaside park in Bulgaria. It gives you a relaxing experience at the beach during the day, but in the evening, you can enjoy the beach bars and clubs. There are many concerts in the summer happening on the port and it truly gives you those bohemian vibes. Burgas is a spot for both Bulgarian and foreign tourists and everybody’s English is perfect.

The Bulgarian culture is a beautiful and vibrant one. It takes just a day to fall in love with the country. It has stunning views and wild nightlife. It surely has something to offer for every taste. People are warm and lovely and kids and pets are always well-treated which is a wonderful bonus to the whole experience!
