Traveling long-term is a goal for a lot of people. They don’t want to grab what few days off they can each year to explore the world. They want to see as much as possible while they’re young, and not have to wait until retirement, when they might not be able to afford it. If this describes you, you might think that your dream is impossible. But there are ways you can achieve it if you put your mind to it. Of course, the main requirement is that you don’t have any significant responsibilities. But even if you have children or pets, it’s still possible to travel for months or even years. Here are some of the things you need to do.

Work Remotely

If you want to travel for at least a year at a time, one of the options you have is to work as you go. It can be complicated working in different countries, as you need the right visa. However, it can be a bit more simple if you’re a remote worker. If you’re self-employed or remotely employed, you could travel and work without worrying about visa issues. It may not always be the case, but it’s often fine as long as you pay your taxes at home. It will also depend on the nature of your work. For example, running writing services online as you travel is likely to be acceptable. However, working as a decorator is likely not to be.

Become a Traveling Worker

Another option is to find employment in the places you travel to. This is obviously easiest if you stay in your home country. However, there are options to help you work legally elsewhere too. You might be able to get a working holiday visa in Australia or New Zealand, for example. Explore which options might be available to you, and remember that it will depend on your nationality. There are places where you might be able to get a work visa if you find a job first. You could do this in a number of countries, especially if you have a skill such as being able to teach English.

Get a Mobile Home

If you want to be able to go where you want, when you want, a mobile home could be your answer. Start looking at fifth wheels for sale to see if it’s something you could afford. Owning an RV means you could easily move from place to place. You could do it in the US, Europe, Australia, and other places. There are lots of things to consider, however. For example, you need to pay for fuel. You also have to make sure you’ll have somewhere to park up each night.

Split Your Time

Traveling full-time isn’t realistic for everyone. But if you still want to travel for months at a time, you could split your time between working and traveling. The best way to do this is to work temporary jobs or be self-employed. Save what you can while you work, then use it to travel for the rest of the year. Many people work for half the year and travel for the other half. Traveling long-term doesn’t have to be an unattainable dream. It could be a way of life if you’re willing to make it work.
