Last weekend we journeyed up country from Cornwall to Shakespeare country to visit my family and stayed at Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel, an historic Tudor house hotel dating back to the 1500’s set in the heart of picturesque Stratford-upon-Avon. The gardens boast an ancient Cedar Tree under which rumour has it, the first performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ was given.
We love hotels that mix the old with the new, and Alveston Manor Hotel does it beautifully. The Grade II listed building dates back to the 15th century and the hotel combines timber-frame features with modern contemporary decor, flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machine, free Wi-Fi and en-suite facilities.
When we arrived we enjoyed a hot chocolate by the open fire in the beautiful lounge.
We also enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel’s award winning AA Rosette Manor Restaurant.
There is a gym and luxury spa at the hotel which unfortunately we didn’t have chance to enjoy, but we loved the 18-metre swimming pool, steam room and sauna.
When we’re next in Warwickshire visiting family, we will certainly stay again at Alveston Manor Hotel.
