I'm a keen snowboarder and my wife loves to ski but since having our two young boys, we've haven't been on a winter ski holiday for five years. Our two young boys are now coming to the ages when we can take them on their first family skiing holiday. Before we had the boys, we would take our ski holidays in Canada but being our first family ski holiday, we want to take the boys somewhere closer to home in Europe and cut down on travel time. From what I've heard from friends who've been on family ski holidays in Europe, Italy is the place to take them, especially the area of South Tyrol. The skiing looks great in South Tyrol with excellent snow levels, nice slopes for the children to learn and stunning alpine scenery. One of the things that sells it for me (and my family) is the food - we love Italian food!

South Tyrol are currently running a competition to giveaway a week’s skiing holiday plus £1000 of Salomon ski gear!
South Tyrol is home to World Cup slopes Saslong and Gran Risa with vertical drops of more than 400m and maximum inclines crossing 50%. There’s the Fanes-Senes Natural Park covering 25,000 hectares of the stunning Dolomites as well as 26km of slopes passing through the four Ladin Valleys and around the Sella Massif.
Another local claim to fame is the highest elevated sauna in Europe at the Bella Vista beside the Hochjochferner Glacier. The region can boast an impressive 23 Michelin stars across 20 restaurants including Auener Hof, the highest-located Michelin starred restaurant in Italy.
For us as a family, South Tyrol looks a great resort with everything we would love - great scenery, great snow and great food. I guess I better enter that comp ASAP!
